There are so many great matches all over the country these days that I can’t be at all of them to bring you the Match Recon goodness so I’ve deputized Minnesota Shooter, Hawkeye Ignite Match Director and 3GN Pro Adam Maxwell to help fill in the gaps with matches that he has shot. Adam brings a unique perspective as an experienced shooter and he is using the same criteria that you told us was important to you in a 3-Gun Show survey.

The first in Adam’s series is the Seekins Precision High Desert Championship which has taken the place of the MGM Ironman on the 2017 calendar. Adam shot this match on a business trip to Idaho and we sat down to talk about the ins and outs of the match, what you can expect and how to prepare to shoot the match yourself.

Match Flavor	I would call this a “western style” match. Vast spaces, lots of targets, fast arrays…simpler fasad- less walls but dump truck
Terrain	I would technically consider this a bay match…but…its a mountian and somebody had an excavator and time on their hands
Skillz Utilized	The match is won and lost with rifles. Hardest limited rifle shooting ever. Bonus rifles
Farthest Shot and/or # of long range targets	392 yards, there weren’t many but they were hard.
Logistics	Sign in tent and match book. Didn’t get much exposure to this as shot with RO’s.
Venue	Easy access from Boise…Base upon Ironman the facility has great potential, this match just scratched the surface. Mostly primitive. Some camper hookups.
Pre-Communication	The expected information did come out via email. It was often last minute and incomplete- I had questions.
Staff	Staff was awesome! They are there to record the best performance you can, not to assess you penalties. RO’s are there to help you, not hurt you.
Fun factor/Adam Factor	High because they use exotic targets and presentations that don’t fly a lot of places…long stages, fast shooting
Funny things that happen at the match.	Tried to find a Steel Challenge match at another range with no directions or other info.
